My main home computer has experienced a serious and possible fatal hard drive failure. I am down and out as far as gaming goes for the present. I have laptop access only (which is too underpowered to even consider running mechwarrior from, which is the least of my worries considering all that is on that hard drive that may be lost.
I wil keep you posted as to any progress

If you can get access to a secondary desktop machine to which you can hook up your hard drive and store any recovered data, 2 excellent programs I recommend are Easy Recovery by OnTrack and PC Inspector File Recovery.
I do not believe these programs are free, however.

The Vulcan High Command (my wife) has smiled upon me. I'm getting a new ship!!! And what a beauty she is (both the computer and my wife).
Dell XPS630 intel quad 2.66 1333mhz fs buss 4 Gig DDR2 RAM Dual Nvidia GeForce 9800GT SLI Graphics 750Gig HD Sound Blaster Extreme x-fi sound card 24 inch ultrasharp monitor ect, ect, ect
My new starship is due to arrive at Starbase Hampton Aug 21st where she will undergo final oufitting and Trials.
I shall also recover the second hard drive from my stricken vessel and install it in an external chassis to use as an external USB drive complete with the critical files from that machine.

Dual Nvidia GeForce 9800GT SLI Graphics I really hope you happen to play more graphic intensive games than mechwarrior... Have to say though, that sounds like it should run anything you throw at it with eas.

Yeah, as in MWLL. That's good to hear but I wouldn't recommend storing any critical data on that stricken drive.

The drive that failed was my "C:" drive which houses my operating system and program files. It is quite Kaput. The drive which I plan to recover is a second hard drive which contains my tax files, photos, music, and the all critical mech varients file. I did manage to loose a large folder of mech art, which was stored on the now defunct C: drive... I am experiencing a strange human reaction while waiting for my new vessel, I believe it is call anxious anticpation.

I have recieved notice from Dell starship yards that my new vessel has been completed early and has departed spacedock as of 10am Aug 15. Which means if they push the warp engines a little, she could be here as early as tomorrow, or Tuesday.

Ah, so the data, or the vast majority of it, was on a different drive. Well that's good news.
Defunct how exactly? Is it knocking?

Good news and bad news. My new comp is up and running. However Mercs will not connect with mech zone or via ip. And for some strange reason, vent will not download either. Any ideas?
My router settings have not changed, neither has my firewall. Could this be an issue with Vista?
